Konya is in south west of the enormous central Anatolian high steppes, where extensive salt lakes have formed. There was a settlement here 5000 years before the Dancing Dervishes made the area famous. One of the oldest Anatolian cities, Catal Huyuk, proven to have been a settlement in 6,500 BC, is just 35Kms south of Konya.

Konya is rich in the historical remains from Roman times to the time when the whole region was ruled by the Seljuk Sultans. A thriving modern city providing an interesting overnight stop on any tour of Turkey.
